Your assignment is to locate a suitable site on campus on which to build 1) a solar power generating facility and 2) a performing arts center.

Criteria:

Engineers have determined that the site must:

Solar power generating facility.

be within 4 to 6 acres in size
have southern exposure
be no more than 0.5 miles from the furthest building
be at the highest feasible elevation

Performing arts center

not to exceed 4 acres
contain parking for 1000 cars
be within 0.25 miles of an existing road
be within 15 minutes walking distance from dorms

What is a suitability analysis? From Steiner (1991), p. 5:

"As explained by McHarg (1969), suitability analyses can be used to determine the fitness of a specific place for a variety of land uses based on thorough ecological inventories and on the values of land users."
